Farewell, Scott!

February 22, 2008 at 12:00 pm by Chris

This is a bittersweet day here at Newfangled. Scott McCall, one of our Project Managers, will be leaving us after today to begin a new phase of his career, playing lead guitar for Tift Merrit's band. Scott is an accomplished musician (he's played guitar with several bands including the Two Dollar Pistols, with Mark), and I'm really happy for him that he'll be able to do what he loves (and is clearly gifted at) full time. If you can't get enough of Scott (heck, who can??), try and catch him on tour. If he's not going to be stopping by your city, you can always catch him on Monday, February 25th, when he performs with Merritt on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno!

Working with Scott has been a real pleasure. I've learned a lot as I've watched him be consistently kind, respectful and helpful to our clients and co-workers, all with a great (and uniquely Scott) sense of humor. Many of his strengths are ones that I lack, so I hope I've been able to absorb at least a bit of Scott's traits over the years. His influence on Newfangled's culture will hopefully stick for a long time to come, too.

Here's a video of Scott performing with Tift Merrit at Raleigh's First Night celebration (if you want to see more, click here):

I love this picture of Scott, it's classic.
What a great post-even though I don't work at NF, I will miss all of the jokes and stories Able brings home.

All the best, Scott, and sweet post, Chris.

Scott,

It has been fun getting to know you since the summer. Thanks for doing your part in helping me feel comfortable starting at Newfangled Web Factory in June. Your humor has kept the office atmosphere light. Your polite attitude toward clients on the phone has been exemplary. I appreciate the times you have gone out of your way to drop me off at the bus stop. I wish you the best in your new career!

Good luck Scott! It's been an absolute pleasure working with you.

Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Scott, I'm definitely a better person for having known you. I've enjoyed the time we spent working together and hanging out in Asheville on Newfangled retreats. Best to you in your new career!

It was awesome working with you Scott! We've had a lot of laughs at the office. It just want be the same without the "Hazzid!".

Keep in touch and God bless!

Scott, its been a pleasure having you on our team, even though we in the Rhode Island office didn't get to see you very often. Be sure to stop by and visit whenever you're in the area.

Clear Skies and Happy Trails!

Oh man, now I'm getting all sentimental. Cinnamintal. That reminds me... I should brush my teeth.

It seems like your last month at Newfangled flew by! I think I speak for everyone when I say that, I really can't wait to go to a Tift concert and heckle from the back row. It'll be funny, and nostalgic. Best of luck!

Good luck Scott, it was great working with you. We're all sad to see you go. But, on the upside, we'll soon all be able to drop your name at parties... "Yes, the world renowned musician: Scott McCall, NO really, I used to work with him! No, I'm NOT lying!"

It should be noted that the above photo was taken of Scott after having received a bouquet of cookies. That's right, a bouquet of cookies. It had been sent to him from a satisfied client, like many, who were impressed with his service.

We are eating donuts and sushi today to honor Scott, but I think if we were really to do him any service, we'd play Quake 3 all afternoon while listening to Cinderella at full volume.

Scott you have a great gift of not taking things too seriously while giving 100% to everything you do. Like Dan says, "we won't have any fun without you!"

Scott,

You will surely be missed my me and I'm sure everyone else at Newfangled, as our lives will be diminished by your absence. Through my sadness for myself I am very happy that you are getting this great opportunity to follow your heart and do what you love most. We look forward to seeing you from time to time.

I've only been here a few months, but even in that short amount of a time, I think you've made me laugh more than any other coworker I've known.

I'm bad at clever farewells, so I'm going rely on some classic Newfangled wisdom: listen to your heartbeat and dance, wear read, watch re-runs, write a real letter, and allow yourself to do nothing, why not. If you're ever craving the wisdom of another Dove chocolate message from the road, you know who to call.

All the best as you leave Newfangled. It was good working with you.

Oh yeah! If anyone from Weaver St. Market is reading this. Get a mail order salad and soup business going soon, because Scott may not survive the road without it!
 Scott February 22, 2008 4:22 PM
Wow! You all are the best. Thanks so much for the wonderful blog. I've been very blessed to have been a part of the great Newfangled crew, and I'm deeply honored by your kind words and encouragement.

I appreciate the opportunities for growth and community I've enjoyed at Newfangled, and it will not be forgotten.

In the immortal words of the greatest lyrical talent of our time, Tom Kieffer "you don't know what you got til it's gone". Fortunately, we all knew what we had and made a great time of it. Congratulations on a job well done.
