Let's outsource!
May 12, 2009 at 1:19 PM by Mark O'BrienI just received a great email from some apparently very smart people about why I should outsource Newfangled's programming work to India via the U.K. The subject line read:
"Outsoucing Report: Outsoucing Why isnt Eveny One Doing it?"Great question. I have no idea, really. |

May 12, 2009 1:56 PM Mark, I'm assuming the typos were theirs, correct? |

May 12, 2009 2:46 PM That's pretty funny. I was involved in a project with someone from another country once. He was working on a project that got outsourced. The man was pretty good at what he did, but the language barrier was a very real factor to overcome. |

May 12, 2009 2:54 PM I'd imagine that the majority of programmers around the world that coding work is outsourced to are excellent at programming. This subject line pretty well sums up every complaint I've ever heard about outsourcing, though. The details always matter. |

May 19, 2009 6:01 AM I run a web design agency in Bangkok, Thailand, and we use both Pakistani and English developers. Besides the developers we use regularly, I have had very bad experiences myself of outsourcing to other companies in these countries. The first point is to realise is their level. A content management system is generally fine, but get them to try and write a Facebook clone and you will simply throw it away and start again. it's not just the typos, it's the conceptualisation of the projects that often goes above their heads. |
